Matthew was written to prove to the Jewish people that Jesus was the promised King and Messiah. Matthew, named for the man who wrote it, included many of the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled concerning the coming King of Israel and how this promised King was not only related to King David (one of the prophecies) but was better than David.
